In case you haven’t realised it yet, there is a lot of trial and error when it comes to digital marketing. Granted, it’s informed trial and error, but there is no way to know if an ad is going to work without first putting it out there.
You can definitely set your ads and ad strategy up for success, but even the most thoughtfully prepared ad that you’re sure will be your next hit can flop once you put money behind it. There’s no denying it, watching an ad not perform the way you expect it to can be incredibly disheartening.
So, what do you do if your first ads aren’t converting? Take a deep breath, then consider the below.
Embrace the failure
Acknowledge that not all your ads are going to succeed, not even your favourite ones. Switching the way you look at this from failure to an indication of the work and effort you’ve put into this will help you deal with the disappointment of your initial ads!
Once you’ve embraced failure, take a step back and try to examine your ads objectively. Are your graphics not landing, your copy clunky or CTA vague? Maybe your audience needs tweaking slightly. Don’t be afraid to recognise errors or misjudgments in your initial work so you can improve your ads!
Test, test, and test some more
There’s no getting around this step – you’re not going to find the ads that work for you without testing them! As you test and tweak your ads, you’ll find the right combination that works for you. It’s trial and error with an end goal of having a handful of really successful ads that convert!
